Multiple Personalities

during our chat yesterday, i complained to louis how annoying it is to umloggen--to logout from an account and then login to another account. we were chatting in gmail and i needed to login to another account to update that blog.

first he suggested to run firefox, opera and IE for different accounts.
well, i have another account on gmail running in opera so i need to umloggen there too. damn, isn't there a word for umloggen in english? and besides, blogger doesn't run smoothly on opera.
IE... i've abandoned it since a long time ago, dunno if it's now much better?

then he mentioned about runas to run another firefox session using another profile. but the profile meant here is the windows profile and i'm too lazy to create another profile in windows just for this. hehe...

and then he gave me this link which lead to an article in lifehacker. hah, should've headed there in the first place.

apparently we can have multiple firefox profiles; each has its own preferences, bookmarks, history, cookies, extensions and all that stuff. pretty neat, eh?
and it's so easy to do as well.

to open the profile manager you have to first close the firefox and then select the
start > run...
from the windows start menu. after you type in
firefox.exe -ProfileManager
you should see the profile manager window.

we could then make a shortcut for each profile

and add
-P profilename
in the properties of each shortcut to make it so much easier to run.

the best thing is,
if you have firefox 2, you can even run 2 or more firefox instances _simultaneously!
you just have to add
-no-remote
to the properties of the shortcuts.

so much love to gina for the great post,
and thanks to louis for the pointer. ^_^
