Anime: Hoshi no Koe

as i was trying to send an sms last night, i got the 'sending in progress' status for quite some time. probably because of the bad weather. or perhaps he's just out of reach.

but anyway,
it reminds me of this wonderful anime from makoto shinkai called hoshi no koe aka 'the voices of a distant star'.

.storyline
this anime tells a story about a boy and a girl. they went to the same junior high, planned about going to the same senior high. but instead, the girl went into a space program. they kept in touch by sending text messages to each other. when the alien 'tarsian' attacked, the girl was then sent as a part of the space force. the further she went away from the earth, the longer it took for the messages to arrive...

.comment
i don't usually like to see love drama, be it an anime or a movie. but this anime is one of the exceptions. the story is wonderful, even if a bit sad. first it took days for the messages to arrive, and then weeks, and then...

while the girl so far away, what should the boy do?
what _can_ he do? and how about the girl?

hate to admit it, but i got teary-eyed watching this. ^^;;

it's remarkable that makoto shinkai actually made this anime all by himself, he even did the voice of the boy in the original version with his fiancée as the girl. the artwork is simply stunning; except for the way he drawn the characters, took me a few minutes to get used to them.

this is truly a must see anime, i'd even recommend it to non anime fans.
