Gutenberg Square

i live close to gutenberg square in the west part of the city. there are a couple of small shops, cafés, a bistro, a restaurant, a wine shop and even a yacht equipment shop around the square.

during summer we can sit outside of the cafés and enjoy the weather while having breakfast or brunch. on saturdays and sundays most of the tables are usually already taken by noon. sometimes there are people who play live music in one of the cafés.

it is a very nice place.

on tuesdays, thursday and saturdays the parking lot is cleared for a day market where over 40 merchants sell fresh meat, cheeses, baked goods, pasta, fresh veggies, and some other goods. this market is one of the oldest around karlsruhe and quite famous in the region. some people come from as far as rastatt and pforzheim to shop here.

i mentioned in my earlier post about my ex boss sandra who now owns a deli. it's about 2 minutes walk from my place, but in the opposite direction to the square. since her deli is quite new, not many people know about it. so i help her on some saturdays to distribute flyers in the market. as a reward i get to take something from her deli ^_^. last time i took a bottle of Cabernet Vini del Piave from collalto winery and also a bottle of vincotto agrodolce. what should i get next time ? ^o^

i've met many people during this job and seen many interesting reactions. some people would just walk by as if i don't exist. they don't even bother to say 'no' or something. these are the ones that i hate the most. i've memorized some of those faces, so that i won't make the same mistake again. :p

some people would take the flyers with or without saying 'thanks'. most of them don't even read it, they just throw it in their basket. hopefully to be read at a later time.

the last groups is the kind of people who make this job interesting. ^_^ they actually talk to me and ask things.

'ah, i know this restaurant !' -- 'mm.. it's now a delicatessen. sandra hasn't found the right location for her new restaurant yet'

'what is this ? ' -- 'it's a new italian delicatessen. it's not far from here, about 2-3 minutes walk.' -- 'but,.. you're not an italian, right ?!' -- 'no, i'm not' ^^;; -- 'oh, i thought it's an asian shop.' (is there a law stating that only italians are allowed to promote italian shops, or perhaps asians are only allowed to promote asian shops... or something ? morons..)

and twice, i met people who actually come to me, instead i to them.. very nice of them, you would think. they took the flyers and started asking about what i'm doing in germany, where i come from, if i enjoy the life here... and suddenly, the ultimate question: 'do you believe in jesus ?'
